First person idle I think is like when you don't move and you do something like adjust a knob on your gun.

first-person idle - The idle, breathing animation. I'd recommend making it about 60 frames (two seconds) long. Should be nothing more than a slow up/down motion. Export this as a JMA file.
first-person overlays - defines how the hands react as the character moves and looks around. it's a 10-frame "animation." for each frame, you position the hands as they should be when the player is moving/looking at full speed; the game will automatically interpolate the positions. Here's how you set up the frames:
frame 0 - idle. not moving or looking.
frame 1 - moving forward (pull the hands a back a bit)
frame 2 - moving backward (push the hands forward a bit)
frame 3 - right strafe (slide the hands to the left a bit)
frame 4 - left strafe (slide the hands to the right a bit)
frame 5 - looking left (position the hands to point the gun a bit to the left)
frame 6 - looking right (position the hands to point the gun a bit to the right)
frame 7 - looking up (position the hands to point the gun a bit upwards)
frame 8 - looking down (position the hands to point the gun a bit downwards)
frame 9 - the position the hands will take if the weapon is being fired on full auto (push the hands back a bit)
Export this as a JMO file.
first-person posing - what the hands do when you leave your character totally stationary for a while. Export this as a JMA file.
first-person moving - an animation for how the hands should move as the character moves. it can be a simple forward-backwards motion like the FP animations in CS1.6, or a simple bob left to right like Halo's animations. Export as a JMA file.

And if the animations look like total crap the first time though (especially the overlays), tweak as needed. The best way to learn is to screw up, and then fix it.
