does any 1 know how to put a circular design on a pipe in 3ds max. meanig i have a pipe , and a pick on an end of a pipe that i want to put on the end, the only problem is that when i put it on the thing it goes on one side only, is there any way of just "painting" it on to the pipe with out going through the materials editor?

ummmm... not sure what you are trying to say, if you want to put a design on your pipe, like a skin, you just make the skin in photoshop/paintshop, save as .tif in your object's bitmaps folder, then apply it with the material editor. or, if you got a texture off of a site, they usually have them as .jpg to save space, so, you open it up in photoshop/paintshop and save it in your pipe's bitmaps folder as .tif.

if you want to make your pipe's model have rings, i have never done that before, but i think that if you make your pipe, give it a lot of sections, then, selecting every other section, scaleing it up, that might do it...never done it tho
