Ok this is my little story about my adventures with tool.exe:
I fallowed that new video toturial for using the HEK package, when I got to the final stage in the process when the .map was going to be compiled tool.exe gave out, all I get is this message when I use the build-cache-file command:
EAX: 0xCACACACA
EBX: 0x035F50001
ECX: 0x0000040B
EDX: 0x0000000
EDI: 0x0012A634
ESI: 0x00000000
EBP: 0x0013A634
ESP: 0x0013A224
EIP: 0x7FFE0304m C3 9C 81 0C ?????
77E814C7 ?????
005F1EE2 ?????
EXCEPTION halt in \halopc\haloce\source\cache\cache_file_builder.c,#109
: <<unsigned long>scractch&31>
I have know idea what this means but i think it means tool can't find the file.
My splinter directory is in data\tags\levels The tutorial says to use this command
tool build-cache-file levels\splinter\splinter
have i done this and many many others!!!
please help me?

I used tool to create the .scenario and the .bitmap why would it just mess up with the building of the map?
and what is really interesting it gives me the same error when I try to build the tutorial file that has allready been built
tool.exe build-cache-file levels\test\tutorial\tutorial
I will uninstall and reinstall hek but i don't think it will make a difference

I reinstalled the HEK tool still continues to hate me, Im very disapointed because I spent alot of time creating a warthog jump map where you had to land inside gaint robos and nevagate to the ground to capture the flag.

You need to uninstall it, before you reinstall it, that way it replaces the files.

I have figured out that all that junk error stuff that it print out is saying it can find the .scenario file because when I run too with tool build-cache-file levels\test (there is no scenario file or any tags there) i get the same message. Ok ill give a breif explaination of where my files and you tell me if im using the right command.
all my tags for splinter are here
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo Custom Edition\tags\levels\splinter
it contains
- splinter.bitmap
- splinter.scenario
- splinter.scenario_structure_bsp
then there are the two folders
bitmaps - which has the splinter_ground.bitmaps
and shader folder which has - splinter_ground.shader_environment
ok
enough with that, back to tool
i open up the damn Commandline and type tool.exe build-cache-file levels\splinter\splinter
is this not wrong?
i know i keep saying the same thing over and over but wtf is wrong? damn tool works with every other command wtf? is there something wrong with my computer? i uninstalled hek and reinstall plus i did the same thing with haloce, did nothing? am i missing some driver?
what does this mean
EXCEPTION halt in \halopc\haloce\source\cache\cache_file_builder.c,#109
i serched my computer for a source derectory nothing there, also there is no c++ cache_file_builder.c!!!!!!!
awwwwwwwwww, it saying its breaking the program on line #109 how do i fix this? I know i better question where is this file? within another, within another?

it could be some sort of memory error on your computer... or windows just doesn't like you... (or me for that matter). The info that the program dumped was memory locations. If you have tried your hand at debugging hex/asm, then you'd understand... otherwise, those memory locations are about as useful as a dead goat soaked in dog piss.... Sorry I can't help ;(

could you post this on gear box because everytime i try i get this message: The host you are trying to send the input from is not a valid host.
here what i want to say: What I don't understand is when I run tool's build-cache-file levels\test\tutorial\tutorial I recive this prompt, which shouldn't occur because I'm compiling files that came with the HEK. And another thing, when I run this command anywhere where there are no files at all like tool build-cache-file levels\test I also recive this error leading me to think that all that junk is tyring to say that it can't find the need files to compiling the map (even thought there all there). Is there a solution?
