Missing tags?

First off, let me say this is NOT A FLAME AGAINST HALO CE OR HEK. I want to clear this up before anyone starts the "You know, Gearbox did SO MUCH for us, and YOU PEOPLE..." comments. I very much respect the Gearbox team and all the work they've done for us, and I'm highly thankful for the HEK (just played some alpha of a guy's map, which was insane; once more stuff gets out, CE's gonna revolutionize Halo), but there are a few things that have yet to be addressed (or perhaps I'm just missing...in which case, call me a n00b, tell my dumb ass how to do it, and we'll all part as friends).

One of these things are the discrepancies between the availability of different tags in the HEK. Now, if anyone's opened Guerilla, they know the insane amount of options you can customize for a given tag, but if a tag simply isn't there, then there doesnt seem to be much to do about it. I'm talking mainly about the lack of Character and Vehicle tags, which I, for one, was very excited about seeing with the HEK. The only .biped tag is that for the Master Chief, and the only .vehi tags are those of the regular Halo vehicles.

I may be missing something here, but does this mean that we can't create these tags ourselves, and until Gearbox decides to intervene, we'll be left without a way to put in drivable vehicles such as the Pelican and Wraith or switch characters from MC to an Elite, or some such? I don't know if there's an easy way to create a new tag to add to the HEK, unless it's as simple as taking the model data from a map in HMT, dumping it in a 3d modeling program, exporting it with 3ds Max and then editing it through Guerilla. I know that there's a program that makes it possible to make CE maps readable by HMT, but does this solution actually work?

It's sort of a letdown for me, that's all. Although I can't help but wonder if maybe they plan to update their tag database in the future.

What do you guys think? Are there too few usable tags? Any ideas on how to fill in the missing ones? Which ones would you like to see added?

It would definitely be vehicle tags for all the vehicles and models for the Armored Marine for me; it's kind of sad (though ironically satisfying) that HMT can do for us what Guerilla kind of...can't  .

Anyway, THOUGHTS. BRING THEM!

It is true that there are not as many tags as one may have hoped for, but the ability to create new vehicals is emenc. Sadly theres no way to quickly test effects of editing tags ( at least right now). If there is a faster way to test im shure more vehicals will be made.

From what I gather from the whole HaloCE package, it's strictly multiplayer. That means no SP items uncommon to MP, which is rather unfortunate.

I too would have liked to see every bit of Halo be edited, but MP is just as well. Remember, judging by this thing you can make ANYTHING at all with these tools, unless it has to go as far as changing the main exe.

For those of you who were into it, look at it like this: id Software's release of DOOM's source code(though this isn't quite as powerful as sourcecode), the whole DOOM community had something Godly-powerful within their hands at long last. However, it was to the end-user for what its purpose would be.

To recap this rambling post-It only include the MP elements of the game, but no one said you can't edit Unicode Text Strings to make it re-enable the SP selection on the menu, no one said you couldn't re-implement the game's SP altogether with these. It's the Halo community's giant marble block, all we have to do is sculpt our masterpiece from it.

Well, in that case, how (im)possible is it to recover these lost tags by decompiling the HaloPC SP .maps?

http://gbxforums.gearboxsoftware.com//s ... o=&fpart=1

These are the first tentative steps by our team towards considering this, but we will need the help of the more knowledgable hackers out there...

Which is where you (yes, you, no not you, you!) come in. Is this really possible? Is there hope?

You know what you guys are actually onto something big here.

It wouyld be impossible to manually switch the tags from little endian to big endian. But if someone (cough* mono, gren, cluis*cough) could design a program that does this for you we could actually take Halo PC maps and use them in Halo CE as well Sp tags.
