in the editing tab on 3ds max scroll down the last bar to uvw mapping and click on it. then scroll down unwrap uvw. now in uvw mapping, go to the bottom and click on bitmap fit and select your bitmap. then in unwrap uvw, scroll down a bit and click on "Edit..." then when a window pops up, scroll down the tab in the top right corner to your bitmap. then just move the vertices in the edit window to the right position. you may have to scale your model a little in the edit window. if you need help you can send it to somebody. im not the greatest skinner.
