Need Help using/placing dynamic lighting

Post by metkillerjoe »

Hi, I've searched throughout halomods.com and some other websites, but nobody (that I've seen) has a tutorial for placing/using dymanic lights or any sort of light emitters.

I'm doing an indoor level with no sky, so I would really appreciate any help.

Thanks for your time and patience.

I would advise against dynamic lights; lower-end video cards can't render dynamic lighting, and it can cause strain if too many lights are placed.

What you do is make your shaders emit radiosity; mess with a shader_environment tag in Guerilla to figure it out.

You can also make what I call a radiosity plane, put in logical spots to create a glow. You give the plane a shader is render-only. two-sided, and that has no bitmap applied, or a bitmap with no alpha channel (so it's invisible). Then you add radisotiy properties to the shader tag to have affect the lightmap when you run radiosity.

Thanks I'll remember that.

But could you also tell me how to place dynamic lights because this won't be for public release.

Thanks for your time and patience.

Go to tags\levels\a50\devices and there are some light emmiters to play around with, if you don't have them then extract them from a50.map using HEK+ or download theghost's tag pack that includes all the files form the SP levels.
