Argh... tags aren't working...

Post by rossmum »

Well, I decided to poke some stuff around in Guerilla (first time I'd touched anything from the HEK), and edited the AR tags, then saved them into a new folder (with a different name). I then went and changed the bits where it links to another tag so that it linked to the ones in the new folder. The ones I didn't edit I just copied and pasted into the folder.

I edited a few things... under the weapon tag I edited accuracy and magazine capacity, changed its identfier thing from "ar" to "ma5b", under projectile I edited range, gravity modifier, speed and the volume of the impact sound, plus material responses, under contrail I just changed its upper and lower colour bounds, under damage I increased lower and upper bounds, ticked "can cause headshots", changed around some damage multipliers, and under trigger damage I made the permanent camera impulse -0.012 (which should cause upwards recoil). All fairly standard and basic changes, which I've done many, many times in HMT with Phenomena's plugins, yet when I zipped the folder and sent it to Tabasco Sauce to put into his test map for me (like I said, I'm a total HEK n00b), it either gave him errors or had little or no effect on the ingame assault rifle. First I changed the tag names, e.g. from "bullet.projectile" to "762.projectile", that gave him errors, so I redid each tag and left the names alone, and now none of my tags seem to have any effect on the in-game assault rifle. He swears blind that he did everything right, so I am now wondering what could've gone wrong with the tags and how I can fix them. Given that I have only a minimal idea about what I'm doing, it's probably some really stupid mistake, but all the same I can't imagine why they dont work.

Any ideas?

Ah, yes, you are mixing up Tag usage between HMT style and actual HEK style.

To start off, clear your head of all HMT'ness while playing with the HEK. In my opinion, they don't mix, and should never mix at all.

Now, you edit a tag in Guerilla. Simple, don't rename it or anything.

Now, to test it out, in cmd/HEKPlus's Tool EX (or whatever tool GUI you have), type in tool build-cache-file levels\test\Tutorial\Tutorial (If it's a Tool GUI you can just select the tool.scenerio file and it'll do it for you).
Read the HEK tut for a bit more help on using Tool.

It'll compile the tags into a map. What HMT does is edit a maps data when it is already compiled into Halo format. HEK edits tags in their original untouched format, before they are actually added to a map.
