Degenerating triangles

I am running gmax.I made a flat map with raised sides. In the center i made a platform by creating vertexes and faces. Sapien gave me degeneration triangles on the verticle walls. I deleted the platform. I made a seperate box, deleted the bottom attached it to my map, and welded the vertices. the verticle walls still gave me degenerating triangles. Is there some concept that im missing?

I figured it out, lol, the whole time i was trying to apply a flat UVW map, man do i feel stupid :?

Yeah always use box
