Making Bitmaps in Tool?

What does this mean (I tried to make bitmaps tags
### malevolence_ground.tif
skipping bitmap with non-power-of-two dimensions (#600x#600#1)
Couldn't read map file './toolbeta.map'

Basically, bitmaps cant be any random size, the height and width dimensions have to be a factor of 2. E.g. 32x32, 256x256, 512x128.
