ANOTHER tool problem (2 actually)

Post by 854961 »

oook - so heres the problem( s ).

1- In 3dsMax 7 i try to save my final result map (before tool), and try to save it as a (splinter).jms, but it says "Dont know how to save that file type."... Any ideas why/what else i could save it as and use in tool?

2- When i try to use tool, it doesnt open/work. ive tried everything - cd programs etc, using haloce root dir, clicking it. just doesnt want to work! i put in:

cd halo custom edition
halo custom edition> tool
(error comes up)
couldnt read map './toolbeta.map'
usage: tool verb <options...>

then load of stuff comes up like:
animations source - directory
strings source - directory
bitmap source - file

SO - any ideas to help me out? ALL suggestions appreciated.

-thanks

3ds max 7?

if your talking about 3ds max 5/6 - you need to go file>export

the put in your name, then in filetype you need to select bitzkreig model exporter .jms

---

as for tool, ill tell you how to get it to work:-

you can either get a copy of CMD.exe into your halo ce root directory, or (my way)

1. In explorer, open Tools, Folder Options.
2. Select the File Types tab.
3. For Windows XP: Go to NONE / Folder.
4. For Windows 2000: Press n to scroll to the N/A section.
5. For Windows NT/98/95: Press f to scroll to the Folders section.
6. Select the entry labeled Folder
7. For Windows 2000/XP: Press Advanced button.
8. For Windows NT/98/95: Press Edit button.
9. Select New
10. In the action block type "Command Prompt" without the quotes.
11. In the app block type "cmd.exe" without the quotes.
12. Save and exit Folder Options.

---

then if you want to open tool, just right click on any folder (eg. data) and slect 'command prompt'

then you can type "tool bitmaps levels\blah\blah" or whatever.

'C:\windows\system32\cmd.exe' - just copy and paste that into your halo directory

Thanks

Edit: And i tried to export it, but it must be different in 7, compared to 5/6.

Could you explain more about blitzkreig?

1) First of all, Read the HEK tutorial. http://www.cortana.org/HEK_Tutorial/main/main.html

As far as I know, there isn't a blitzkrieg (.jms) plugin exporter for 3ds max 7, so you may need to go to 3ds max version 6, the plugin for which you can get here .http://www.cortana.org//tafs/files_patch.taf

2) Sounds like tool is working just fine. The 'toolbeta.map' error message can be ignored. Once again, read the tutorial.

1- Hexblade, both your suggestions for tool didnt work. probably because i didnt understand it, therefor did it wrong. "you can either get a copy of CMD.exe into your halo ce root directory" - i copied cmd to the directory, then what? "or (my way)" that way didnt do anything to my knowledge. which explorer? where should it be? should i be in any specific file?

2- mickdo - i have read it, thats why im here. "may need to go to 3ds max version 6" downloadable at...? Ive looked at descreet, but can only find 3ds 7. "The 'toolbeta.map' error message can be ignored. Once again, read the tutorial." - which bit? I checked again and couldnt find it.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, if you could keep helping i'd be greatful.

It's all in the tutorial... you seem to have skipped over a lot of it.

Firstly, at the very start of the tutorial it mentions putting the blitzkrieg plugin into your 3ds max 7 (it seems you can use the plugin for 3ds max 6). As I gave you in my previous post, the download of the plugin is at http://www.cortana.org//tafs/files_patch.taf

Secondly, further into the tutorial, it mentions that you use tool with arguments, such as 'structure', and 'bitmap'. It doesn't just work by typing 'tool' and pressing enter. Read the tutorial again.

Where I said the error message could be ignored, and then read the tutorial after it, I didn't mean that that bit was mentioned specifically. I was actually referring to the tool usage as a whole.

"tool.exe structure levels\test\tutorial tutorial" is mean to be typed in the command line, right? Well, i do that and still the same error comes up! './toolbeta.map is obviously needed to work. Still, im getting closer to working it out!

BTW - thanks, with your help ive sorted out the .jms problem. :D

everyone gets the toolbeta.map error - it means nothing.

and you dont need the ".exe" - you can just use "tool structure levels\test\tutorial tutorial"

###error model file has wrong version number

^^^appeared when i put in "tool structure levels\splinter splinter"

just as 'kirk' said, but it just says - 'building intermediate geometry', then the error comes up.

Any ideas? (ive checked the cortana error list, and it isnt there)

The wrong version number error is probably because you have faces in your map that dont have a material applied to them
