if you've ever done anything i flash you'll know. I don't know how different 3ds is from flash but in flash, here's how it works:
You create the 1st from.
you tell it to create a motion tween
Then you go out say, 20 frames and set up a second keyframe.
In the second, you move something, say an arm, up from it's first keyframe position
When you play it back, it should move from keyframe to keyframe.
this, again, is very basic, but i hope this helps with the general idea.

i think he means the frames wich you link to your level or watever

It's somewhat different, 'motion tween' is a lot easier to do in 3dsmax, you just press the animate button, arrange it how you like, move to the next frame or skip a few and then arrange it again. There are plenty of good tutorials on it. Just google it.

ooooh. In that case:
Frame: A small box created OUTSIDE the map that is labeled frame
Once you create things like, bases, water planes, etc. Select those items, and using the link tool found in the top-left side of the tool bar, drag from the selected items to the frame. Then press H to view whether they were linked to the Frame.
Click the plus by the frame tree to see what is linked.
Hope that helps!

@silverstone
no "I was right because" he meant the frame wich you link to the level and not to animated things.

YAY a new problem...
Chimp Error: Unable to find any used materials.
Ensure your objects have materials assigned to them

Umm..... make sure all your objects have materials assigned to them. Make sure they're either standard or multi-sub object at parent too.

does that mean they all hav a name?

I think they must have the same name as the tif. file.

how do i do that? or know if i did that?

ok, in 3ds, hit M that will pull up materials. Under there, click on any sphere with a texture on it. Then in the top of that window below the spheres it'll say material #whatever
make sure thats the same as the .tif you're using. especially in sky and water textures etc.

... You just use +sky for the sky, and the material doesn't have to have the same name (or maybe the bitmap child does

)
