No Idea where to start?

Yea i wanna get into modding and making guns,vehicles,maps etc but i dont have a clue where to start or what the hell im doing. can anyone please get me started. Not just handing me programs but lay down the basics of whats right and wrong if anyone has time or doesnt mind.
