I HATE TOOL!!!

Post by Zarin »

Ok listen I got my map made everythings perfect to my specifications everything is linked and set to roll bitmaps are perfect, Geometry is all set. I export as a .jms and I place it in the data\levels\test\tutorial\models folder so yay! I go and I open tool, I type in cd\program files\microsoft gamers\halo custom edition to get to my halo root directory thingie and then I type in;

tool.exe structure levels\test\tutorial GUN (the jms file is called GUN)

So it says:

Couldn't read map file '.\toolbeta.map'
building intermediate geometry...
### WARNING found #66 degenerate triangles.
building colision geometry...
reducing collision geometry...
building collision bsp...
### ERROR found z buffered triangles (red).
### ERROR couldn't build bsp because of overlapping serfaces (orange).
### ERROR couldn't build bsp2d.
### ERROR couldn't build leaf.
### WARNING found nearly coplanar surfaces (red and green).
### ERROR failed to import collision bsp.

Then returns me to the directory. WHAT CAN I DO!? The tut does NOT help me, it SUGGESTS that I do something which I've already done. Please, AIM me, PM me, ANYTHING! I want this to work! It's like my first map and it does this to me!
Everything on the model should work but it won't!!!

The tutorial tells you what to do http://www.cortana.org/HEK_Tutorial/ref ... ation.html.
Import the error file into 3ds max and fix the map errors it identifies.

with tool, the problem usually is between the chair and the computer...

Then again, the problem is also between the files and the OS... thanks, Windows!

Yeah... probably open edges or overlapping polygons in your BSP model. Try running the STL Check modifier and see if any errors show up. If not... than import your WRL file that tool created in your Halo CE Root Directory (which should be named after your JMS). Uncheck all the checks when you are prompted with some options when you import your WRL. After that, hit F3 which will bring your viewport into Wireframe mode and find the edges that have a different color from the rest... usually red or something. Those are your errors. Fix them and try recompiling.
