Fraps Tips and Compressing Video Files

Tips for shooting:

- For the beginning movie maker, buying fraps is a waste of money. You should get the basics down with the demo first.
- Making Movies half-size greatly reduces the uncompressed movie size (by half).
- Make sure that your FPS is the same as your FPS in halo. This can be changed in the settings or while your even playing the game. I reccomend 30 FPS
- An easyer way to capture a photo to put in your movie besides taking a picture via fraps would be the "Print Scr" button on your keyboard. This captures the screen and you can paste it in an editing software such as paint or flash. Reccomended if Halo takes up the whole screen.

The disadvantages of demo fraps (currently):
-The fraps watermark on each clip of captured video/ (the fraps website on top)
- a limit of 30 seconds of uninterupted recording per hotkey push.
- Uncompressed video file size
- All pictures are in bitmap*

* a great loophole to fix this problem (if halo is full screen resolution for you) is to take a "Print Scr" picture and paste it in paint. Then go to file>>Save as... and select the image type.

Fraps video captures can be compressed in file size via Windows Movie Maker. This is very easy to do. Open WMM, then go to tasks on the top toolbar. Click on "Import Video" and locate your file(s). Then, one by one (if you want them unedited), place them in the Timeline. Go to File>>Save Movie File, and save it as whatever name you want. After that it will ask you what quality you want it. I reccomend the recommended one (generally on top). If you want it very good quality, but at a high size, then you can pick NTSC 2.1 Mbps which is the best quality. After that, create your movie and your ready to roll.
