p.s. I made a movie before and it was only 30 megs and thats when I didn't use any to compress it

Record at a lower resolution.
30 Fps is good
Try not to use full screen.
Compress it?

Yeah, fraps records uncompressed video. That's why it's insane.

Its an avi

Nope. You're all wrong. In their fully compressed formats, AVI compresses significantly smaller than WMV does.

The reason why Fraps AVI format is huge is because the Fraps program only worries about recording the video file; If it tried to properly compress it, even the most powerful gaming PCs would probably crash.

The program I use to compress my Fraps recordings is called Virtual Dub Converter.

It's very good for compressing and converting AVI files with a variety of codecs. As stated on the site, you're probably better off using the bug-free version 1.5.10, rather than the experimental version 1.6.2....

AVI's arent that high in quality in their fully compressed format. Neither are WMV's

open the file up in windows movie maker, make it the way you want, save it and what-not to a wmv format or somethign and the size will be dramatically decreased (this is after a basic convert so that is is useable by WMM)

You need to get a registered version of fraps, you only have a trial at the moment.

and thread starter (too lazy to look for name soz) Dont bother recording higher than 800x600. Its pointless and cuts down on filesize.
