Ok, I'll start the voting charade.

My Vote:

MoDFoX: FloodCanyon:

Reasoning:

There are beautiful maps, improved gameplay and new modding methods present in the contest, however the one that really stood out for me was MoDFoX's map.

It wasn't stunningly beautiful like Andrew_b's map, it didn't have the new methods for map building present in mine, it didn't have all the thought into key placement of objects and effects that tucker's did.

What it did have was interesting gameplay, that allowed players to play regardless of their internet type or the number of people willing to play with. A big downside of modding is finding others to play your maps, and this will never have that problem, it's a fun challenging map that allows for a single person to play through a whole new scenario, much like campaign, except with a completely new environment.

The placement of scenery and the blocking of certain paths was a very clever idea, and overall I truly believe this map is the best in the contest.

Good Job MoDFoX.

Other people, please cast your votes.

My vote goes to Andrew_b.
This was a very tough choice, I wasn't able fully to test Fox's mod due to the errors I received so I can't really judge it. It was interesting but nothing new.
I really liked DeadHamsters mod because of its originality, you can make your own map without making a new BSP, there were quite a few problems with falling through certain points and random exception errors, but, for being a mod that was pulled off in less than a day, very nice work, it has a lot of potential but could use more refining.
The reason I chose Andrew's mod was because of the beauty in it, I loved how all the projectiles that should generate their own glow or light, do, I loved the internalized textures and the camera view at the beginning of the game, like nothing I have seen done before. Again, the lighting was fantastic.
All the mods were great and I like the originality, if I could vote for more than one I would, but Andrew gets my vote.

Ok, I'll start the voting charade.

My Vote:

Tucker: Fatality Island

Reasoning:

Although both DH and Andrew have superb maps I found that tuckers was overall the best of the bunch, modding and usability wise.

DH's map is a beautiful new concept to modding but it just doesn't pull off the overall modding aspect of the game. I love it and I'm sure I'll play it with friends in the future but for a mod its not the best of the bunch.

Andrew's map "Shortest" is a beautiful design but not exactly great due to the fact it is not compatible with other maps. Being pretty is a great thing, but without the cross-server aspect it just doesn't stand out.

Tucker's map, although there are some things that need to be worked out (The flying is odd) it would be fun for what its meant for, a group of friends who want to play a new style of game. Its got a new, fun gamestyle.
Good job Tucker, I wasn't expecting the results you produced.

DeadHamster:
Pros: New BSP like log mods. Woot! I liked how you could drive around. It was sort of like a city. I have a little surprise for you. :D

Cons: Random Exception error. Plus the collision errors, but still you did something new.

ModFox:
Pros: I liked the single player like story line. I also like how it was so dark the flashlight didn't really do anything so you'd just get hit by zombies wanting to suck out your brains.

Cons: As I said, the darkness added to the effect, but really it was just too dark. Lol. Plus flood freak the crap out of me.

Tucker933:
Pros: Balanced Weapons, Improved scenery placement, edited strings, etc. It's evident that you spent so much time on it. I really loved your map.

Cons: Flying warthogs, but as you said, it helps with the gameplay. I'm sure it does now that I actually play your mod. I still think the controls are ridiculous.

bold = My Vote

Sorry DeadHamster and ModFox. Tuckers mod just stood out to me. And yes, I did actually play all of your mods.

Also, congrats to DeadHamster. Today felt like 2006. Thank you. It was nice having the download section alive again.

I liked everyones, but I like DeadHamsters the most. In light of new tools released, he took log modding to the next level, which I think is pretty awesome.
So, my vote, obviously goes to DeadHamster.

okay guys. i spend most of my time in the readers section, but i have watched you for a while and seen your improvements as modders. ill probably never be anywhere you guys as far as modding goes (but im sure id put up a good fight with my skins ) because im a total dumbass when it comes to these tools. so congrats to you all.

now, i actually downloaded and played each mod, and it was a really tough choice between ALL of these mods.

you all had your strong points. modfox making use of fire to block paths. deadhamster for taking log modding to the next level. andrew b for being a skinner such as myself good job with the lightmaps. tuckers map was also a great idea, i like all of the things you can do for fun... you could play his map for hours.

HOWEVER, there can only be one winner

my pick is andrew b, because what is most important to me in making a map appealing is the way it looks. great job with the lighting and skinning. it looks realistic like something a real professional would have done in making a map. it was very visually appealing.

to the others- certain things about your maps caused me not to pick you as winners. to tucker, flying hogs just seem wayyy too cheesy for a mod that you want to win a contest in. deadhamster, great job, but your map is just visually unappealing. could have used much more work with lightmaps and skinning, even though there was a time limit on this. and modfox, your map was great but full of just little things i didnt like, and could have used more skinning. andrew b is the only one who really emphasized the visual appearance of his map. all your maps contained mods, but the game overall didnt look so different.

GJ TO YOU ALL
