Halo - weapon installing

Hi im new to modding halo and i cant find a tut. on weapons, i always download the weapons and end up getting a .dds file, what do i do with these dds files? if u can find a tut on weapons please post a link, thanks!

the .dds is your skin
In HMT go to the bitmaps tag and import that file over the weapon bitmap that exists and you will have a newly skinned weapon.
If the size is different always select no when it asks you to update unless you hit the Eof button on that bitmap and then Update before injecting the bitmap.
you can use any map file to import
