Project working Gravity Rifle

Now don't be fooled, this may be my first post but I am no n00b to modding Halo. I have experimented with hex editing and know my way around HMT3. I'm working with Lebowski on a couple of projects, but I have one of my own that I'd like to get going with your help.

My goal is to replace the Plasma Rifle with a fully-functional Gravity Rifle in MP.

So far, I've realized the only MP map I can do this on without a map rebuild is BG. For some reason a fair amount of the GR data (seemingly enough to have a working weapon) exists in that map already, but only in that map. For starters, I tried a simple meta swap in HMT3, using the "Swap" command (inside the Plasma Rifle weapon tag) to swap the PR meta for the GR meta. This resulted in absolutely nothing. The PR performed and looked exactly the same as it always does. Next I tried extracting the GR weapon metadata into a file (with "recursive" checked) and Injected that metadata file into the PR weapon tag. Same result, absolutely no change. So right now I'm at a loss where to go from here, and I need your suggestions.

So guys, what do you think I should try next?

Make A Gravity Rifle Model So We Can See What We Are Shooting At And Stuff.

Could you be more specific about exactly how you "put it in", please? I'd like to at least get that far and then see if I can go further.

If you knew how it intended to word It'd be easier. Try emailing a guy from Bungie.

First things first. Can one of you just please tell me, in detail, how you get the GR rifle to become usable in BG?

Change a eapon to Gravity Rifle. Rifle is located in Blood Gulch so it is just simple value swapping.

Ahhh, value instead of meta...

Thanks for the clarification. :)

I thought it used the same projectile as the Xbox flamethrower--what you would need to do is manually reconstruct the projectile via hex, I'd think. Of course, that isn't easy. Maybe you could borrow different lines of code from different weapons, I guess, but it's no easy task...

Wait... You mean just changin projectile of gravity rifle? Don't you just change flame to sumtin else? Well, if it doesn't.. Batch Extract Blood Gulch and save meta data for sumtin, lets say wraith mortar. Paste all of Wraith Mortar data into bgs batch extracted data. Rebuild map and choose additional files as Wraiths Mortar. Now change projectile of flamethrower to wraith mortar... I think...

My take on the Gravity Rifle:
When you shoot it isn't shooting flames, it creates a flame at the target. This was probably a temp graphic. I'm guessing it was meant to create an effect that looks like it is bending gravity or something, because a split second after the flame appears that area gets "crushed by gravity" or, in other words damages the target.

How to fix?
Try replacing that GR flame with a better looking graphic. Maybe the teleporter sprite will work? Then we gotta find a way to give it a first person model. I'm not sure how possible it is, but it might require a little research.

Other info:
Did you know sentinels can pick it up? I made a mod for Hangemhigh where everyone was sentinels and you had you default laser or you could go and pick up one of the many GRs laying on the ground to crush your opponents with. I liked the whole concept, but I needed to make the sentinels a bit more mobile to be of much fun. Also I need some improved model injection cuz it wasn't coming out as good as I hoped. :[

I think you're onto something there. Could we possibly use the same principle that allows the Active C to change the MC's appearence to make the GR look like it was bending gravity? I need to do some more experienting but I think it could work.

to 'put it in' u would have to build an HUD interface for the GR wouldn't u?

Yes... along with a first person model and all that. How or if it would work I'm not sure. It's worth looking into though.

as for the flames ... id ont think that there a temp. garaphic...look at the flames in the lower half of the covie gun turet... blue flames... i think that that is just how bungie chose to show a distortion in gravity
