Need help with a sandstorm

Post by StinkyDiaper »

Hi everyone I am in the progress of making a mode for sidewinder so that it is a like a beach (sorta) and not like an arctic island. I have made all the land and stuff look like sand. However, I have been looking around and I looked at a tut on how to and snow to maps. I did that and it looked good. However, I was wondering if there was a way to maybe change the bitmaps so that the snow looked like sand. If any1 can help me it would be very appreciated.

Here is what it looks like so far

Like sandwinder...
Well, you could take the snow particle system, make it heavier and change the color to brown.

I think it just has an effect onto it. Just change Snow to sand it it should work.

Or maybe it is just a pic that can be changed

yes because it is a snow map it is already in there because of the AR. All you should have to do it change the SNow to sand it it SHOULD work. if not then go with the other dudes idea.

It's not a effect. it's a particle system that changes colors through the alpha. I know this because I've made a sandstorm before in my old map. Go open up snow in eshaton and change the color. How would there be a effect to it?

I PMI'd and skinned some bugs and rain and it made a great sandstorm atmosphere. Try that. :)

Here Is what i got after swapping some dependincies and kinda winging it on the adding snow tutorial.

And that barely looks like sand in game. It looks kinda like dark snow. However, Philly you said u PMI'd bugs? what do you mean by that?

The bug weather system. As for you, I don't think snow changes through a bitmap, theres a color value stored somewhere that changes the color of white and uses the alpha to yeah.

I used bugs and rain from c10 and nulled out the rain and beetles.

Blhe, I just made the snow really heavy so you couldn't see a few feet ahead of you.

OK i tried a few things got this.

But now it looks like big chunks of sand floating. Is there a meta that i can use that is faster and a little crazier I guess so it looks more like heavy winds?

[rain]
I see you have the particle count quite high. Make the particles smaller and move faster.

I'm pretty sure he meant use Rain instead of snow.

Nopw, snow is proper. That way the wind affect it and it swirls around. Just increase the particle count.

Nope, use rain, and null out the rain and beetles. I think I made it pretty clear.

that's not the way I did it for my map named sandstorm. Snow is win. I can send over the ce tags if you want.
