bump map in the multi?

umm ive seen a bump mapped pistol a while ago ?

and i am working on a really goood looking halo 3 assualt rifle im trying to give scratches bumpmap?
does any1 know how ot? cause it would really help me!

That may have been mine. Well anywayz the bump map was in the multi. I made it using gimp, even then the weapon has to be fully exposed to light for the bump mapping to be seen. I guess that's all I can pull out of my brain lol.

You can bump map weapons??? or are you talking about the fake kind where you skin it to look bump mapped?

Well the fake bumpmaping works beter in halo pc but in CE you can bumpmap anything, like generate bumpmaps in HEK i think. But as for what i did was use the bump map filter in Gimp Shop.
Was it this skin?

Yup a Gimp bumpmap filter & umm.. i guess it is also a fake bump map exceptits in the multi in the multi.:

i dont see where it looks anything close to being bumped. a true bumpmap looks like this..
if you tried to inject that texture above it would simply act as a multipurpose thoe with the colors reflecting multipurpose quality for example all the blue would be shiny.
you can thoe "fake bumpmap" textures by doing something like this below..
as conure said doing this on the PC end is virtually impossible thoe.

when referencing the word "bump map" i was using in the context of how bungie presents theirs. didnt know a simple referance would turn to a pissing contest

Don't talk yourself out of there. There are normal maps and bump maps and they both can look DIFFERENT. So obviously they are different. They may

Stupid Halo PC being an outdated engine...things would look wonderful with bump maps.

wat if you change the bump map from a certain BSP bitmap
(like the one in T&R , the cliffs)make it look like a weapon bump and swap weapon shaders with it?

Yeah, I wish I could put havoc in HPC....
Its the same engine-base H2 has
Everything would look MUCH better.
I wonder if thats possible...
