I'll make this as short as possible.

HaloMapTools.exe -> File -> Open (Open Map File..) -> C:\...\Halo\Maps -> bitmaps.map as my selection -> Open -> Image

...Yeah.
Has this been answered before?
Or is bitmaps.map not somethin HMT likes to select?

bah...but..Whats up with that?

P.S.
Lets get this straight, I suck at halo and I fail at life and I'm a noob and all those other things, kk.
I am THE DigitalPh33r version of Master Chief..

Bitmaps.map doesn't follow the same structure as other .map files. Just like sounds.map, it's just a collection of raw data. All of the info for reading it, including the header data for an individual image is stored in the bitm tags of other maps. It's just raw image data stacked continuously into one external file in order to save on space.

now ill give the unscientific answer... lol

you cant open that file. you cant open sounds or bitmaps. if you want to edit a sound or a bitmap just open the map for the level your trying to mod. in the bitmap tag for that map youll see all the textures that make up that map only.

example...

i want to mod bg.

you open bloodgulch.map. 5th down is the bitmap tag. click it. then a submenu will appear with all the bitmaps (pictures) that make up bloodgulch. you find you pic and a edit it by following one of the many skinning tuts here.

get how it works now?
