MC injecting problem
Ok, so this is what i do: first i export MC skin (cyborg) using HMT, then i draw all over him with PS, then i save as jpeg, then i inject it using HMT, then HMT crashes, then i put the bitmap.map into the halo folder (with modded v of map BG), then i start halo... so it goes thru the ads then it comes to the menu screen and its all black and i cant see shit... y?

Re: MC injecting problem
You have to save it as a .dss file. In short, save it as the same file format as the bitmap.guysullavin wrote:Ok, so this is what i do: first i export MC skin (cyborg) using HMT, then i draw all over him with PS, then i save as jpeg, then i inject it using HMT, then HMT crashes, then i put the bitmap.map into the halo folder (with modded v of map BG), then i start halo... so it goes thru the ads then it comes to the menu screen and its all black and i cant see ****... y?

ok.
you dont need a .dds converter, what you need to do is read some tutorials around here so you dont come off looking like a total nub.
first off..
you dont need to reinstall halo to get your stock maps back. there is a faster way. go find the tut or google for it.
second..
any paint type program can open .dds files. either photoshop, gimp or msn paint if need be. go get gimp cause its free. get the .dds plugin for it.
third..
look around this site in the tutorials for how to make skins. theres i know 4 or 5 on them. read them. follow them!
lets recap...
this is what your going to be searching for either in the search box for this site or on google...
-how to skin bitmaps in halopc
-gimp paint program
-restore halopc maps without install
if you cant find these things then leave seriously. its the same crap over and over of all these new guys wanting to skin but dont bother to go read a tut or two and learn for themselves then inturn make themselves look foolish cause all this could have been solved if they would just check a tutorial section.
im not trying to flame or anything but it is getting a tad old having to repeat the same sentances over and over...
my prediction..
in a month time guysullavin will release a modded map featuring logs and a pistol that shoots rockets/masterchiefs/needles/nades... >_>

First off: if you're using mac please say so because most of the problem and solutions are completely different due to differences in tools.
Not that anyone who's been replying to this will bother reading but HMT:mac DOES allow for the injection of jpg, gif, png and more bearable image types rather than directdraw surface.
And it sounds like you're going to have to reinstall halo. (There's no way to explore the CD for the mapfiles that I know of)
Btw, it sounds like you did something pretty bad to your bitmaps or something. I've never heard of halo blacking out before from a botched skin injection.

lemme old school you two real quick cause i thought most people knew this old trick...
"Tutorial By DECOY
If you did not make back up copies of your Halo map files before modding them,
you are going to need to access the originals at some point.
Here's how without reinstalling halo
1) Insert your HaloPC CD into your CD/DVD drive
2) Explore the cd using whatever means you feel comfortable with (IE, Explorer,
etc). From here on I'll refer to the CD drive as drive G:
3) Go into the folder labeled FilesCab (G:\FilesCab).
4) Here you should see 6 cab files (Cab1.cab, Cab2.cab, ...)
5) Depending on which map(s) you need to restore, you will need to look in a
certain Cabinet file. See below table.
Cabinet File Listings:
Cab1
a10.map
a30.map
a50.map
d40.map
Cab2
b30.map
b40.map
beavercreek.map
bloodgulch.map
boardingaction.map
Cab3
c10.map
c20.map
c40.map
carousel.map
chillout.map
d20.map
damnation.map
dangerground.map
deathisland.map
Cab4
bitmaps.map
Cab5
sounds.map
Cab6
Halo Directory Structure*(see note)
wizard.map
ui.map
timberland.map
sidewinder.map
ratrace.map
putput.map
prisoner.map
longest.map
infinity.map
icefields.map
hangemhigh.map
gephyrophobia.map
6) After you have figured out which Cab(s) contains the map which you need,
open the cab using WinRAR or WinZIP (or your favorite cab-supporting
compression program). Once its opened, navigate to the "maps" directory. Inside
you will find the maps mentioned in the above table.
7) This should go without saying but...Copy and paste the map from the CAB
archive into your Halo\Maps directory.
Follow the last two steps again for each map that you need to restore.
*NOTE: The Halo Directory structure, are the files and directories which get copied
to your Halo directory upon installation. This is ONLY present in Cab6. As with the
other cabs, in order to locate the original maps in this archive, you must first
travel inside the Maps directory."
now for this dds/injecting issue..
as for mac? i have no clue,.. then again like said.. read a tut. i went a looked and found 3 of them right off the bat explaining how to inject .dds files and such. im not trying to be a piss ant but all i can do is tell you the quick breakdown how PC users do it.
its simple..
open hmt.
open a map and go to the bitmaps section
find dds pic you want to edit and extract it.
open it in a paint prog of your choice with dds reading capabilities.
edit your bitmap/dds file.
save it with the correct dds format needed for that pic. this meaning dxt1, dxt2, and so forth.
inject your new saved bitmap/dds file overwriting your old one.
close hmt and go play halo.
if your on a mac then maybe edit your topic to "MAC USER MC Injecting Problem".
sorry to come off rude but my headlight gels arent saving correctly.
