Editing Flags and Wall Skins

Hello all,

I have two questions, one about editing the flags and editing the walls in Halo PC.

Flag:

I'm trying to edit the red and blue flags for CTF.

I extracted the red flag with HMT and edited it with Photoshop, I saved it as DXT3, inserted back into the map with HMT....and it shows up fine....but when I load up the map. the new flag doesnt show up in the game.

I extracted and inserted from this bitmap location:

weapons\flag\bitmaps\flag_red

(now I dont know if this is the flag bitmap for when a player is holding the flag.....if it is, then I cant seem to find the bitmap used where the flag is in its home base....if there is a difference)

Walls:

How do you insert images or text on the walls of the map?

(I've seen it done on YouTube [where someone added text to the halo ring in the sky in the blood gluch map, and they inserted randome images on the walls of the map], but I cant seem to figure it out)

Thanks!

For the flag, try checking to make sure you are importing the skin into the flag's bitmap in the MAPS folder, not accidentally in the Backups folder.

For the walls, try copy/pasting an image onto the wall's bitmap.

Ok, I have run into a really weird problem (bug) with HMT3.5.

So after I read your post UPS I tried again, and made sure I saved the edited map into the MAP folder of Halo, and it still didnt show up in the game, but it showed up in HMT. I used the carousel (derelict) map [and I added some text to the pistol].

I close down HMT and every other program. I start up HMT, I go and I open up a map that I didnt touch before (blood gulch), and the pistol I had edited and inserted in the carousel map was automatically in this map.....I close it down, open up all the other maps.....and the same thing.....the edited pistol automatically showed up in the other maps that I havent even touched yet!

So I erase all of the halo maps (I backed up all the originals on a flash drive before I even started modding....roughly 2 weeks ago). I erase HMT, all the plugins, I completely erased everything....I ran Registry Mechanic to eliminate any registry additions that may have been there for HMT. I restart my computer, run Registry Mechanic again, run regedit and do a search for any HMT and Halo mapping tool entries and remove them. (I did this 3 times to make sure nothing was missed). I clear all of cache off the computer and cleared temp files.

I restart my computer, download HMT again, and the plugins. I re-install the original maps. I create a new Edit folder and place the maps there too. I open up HMT I click to open a map, and I notice it still says the last map I had previously opened before I erased everything.....How is this possible?

So I open up carousel again. The edit I made wasnt there, I opened other maps, and again nothing was there. So I extract the pistol bitmap again, edited it (added some colour), reinserted it. Copied the edited map and pasted it in the Halo MAPS folder, opened Halo, went to the carousel (derelict) map and again nothing was there! I close down Halo, open up HMT, I open up a map I havent touched, and the edited pistol, again is there......it was present in all maps.

What is going on?????????

Am I missing a step or something?

HMT -> a Halo .map -> Bitmaps section -> Pistol bitmap -> Save -> open .dds file in PhotoShop -> edit, merge layers -> save file as .dds DXT1 (Alpha) -> HMT insert new .dds file [I've also tried clicking the "update" button] -> close map but still the same thing...

The bitmaps.map is shared, meaning if you skin your pistol in one map, all maps will have it.

ahhh, ok......thats the problem.

I had a separate "Edit" folder with all the maps in it, and I would edit it directly from there.

When I edited the carousel.map I thought it only edited that map, so when I copied and pasted the carousel map back into the Halo/MAPS folder I didnt include the bitmaps.map when I copied/pasted the edited map back.

Thank you!
