problem with Halo map editing on vista.

ive been messing with HMT and the usual utilities for a few years on XP, i recently got a laptop with vista and started messing with halo on that.

my problem arose first when i was getting an exception error for something I edited on Truth and Reconciliation (a50). i figured 'instead of trying to track down what i did, ill just delete this file and replace it with a clean one off of the disk's filecab folder'.

So I did this and went back into HMT opening the new file, and somehow this new one i copied in to replace the modified one had the modifications on it too. so I tried deleting every .map file and putting them back on. every single one I edited still had the modifications and the game played with the mods in it.

I even went as far as uninstalling the game completely, and reinstalling it, still no luck, the files keep showing up modded. the odd thing is if i put clean files anywhere else on the computer besides halo's map folder and open them in HMT, theyre completely clean of any modifications, but the second i transfer them in, they change somehow.

how do i keep it from doing this?

i'm guessing i'm the only one this has happened to. if anyone has any info on this i'd really appreciate a fix for this.
