Having problems making skins...

When ever I make a skin in Photoshop, and then put it in the game, it doesn't have the skin until I walk up right next to it, I could be 10 feet away and it looks normal until i get 2 feet away and then it turns to what the skin is... Is this normal? If not, then how do I fix it?

I have a feeling its to do with how I saze the .dds because skins that I download work perfectly.

Alright, I decided to check it out more.

I downloaded my friends skin and it works perfectly. S its defiently not from me applying it nor the multipurpose. So that means its how I save it.

I am using the DDS Importer/Explorted for Photoshop, what settings do I need to set it to?

I would suggest downloading DXTBMP, its a free program that can convert almost any picture file into .dds, save your skin somewhere as a JPEG or BMP, open it in DXT, and save it as a .dds, you can also open a .dds and send it directly to photoshop, without converting it first.

I know what the problem is! when you save it has all the dds options make sure youe have it generate mipmaps and set it to all. it should look like this:

that should do it

the mipmaps are what halo uses when something gets farther away, and it switches to a less detailed version of the skin, sorta like with models. When you are saving, you aren't generating the other mipmaps so you can only see it from up close

i got a totally different interface with photoshop and the plug in, so i just put it to DXT1 1-bit alpha and 2d texture and generate mipmap, but once i inject the texture it tells me "texture must be DXT1" and once i start the game, it totally chrashes and i have to reboot because whole pc doesnt respond! any ideas?

p.s. i was editing the crosshair from hud_reticle 1 with the 4 things in it, i want to make all crosshairs like the "no weapon" reticle in the first hud_reticle!

any1 has ideas how to make this in ps? i just centered over the excisting icons and put it in there, i hope this was the right way !

EDIT* if you have the same problem as i have, save it as 32 bit rgb and itll work, + centering them and then editing places them in the middle of your screen, thanks you guys for infos above, im glad i figured it out =)

if u want a more specific skin tool i got one
