You have two options; neither are fast nor easy.

If you'd just like to have a sword put into Halo PC, you'll need to take an existing weapon, import it into Milkshape 3D, and move its vertices around until you get a sword shape. Then you can just export the model out of Milkshape and right back into Halo Map Tools. However, this way does not always yield the best results.

You can also model a completely new weapon, your sword, in Gmax. You can use as many polygons and vertices you'd like (up to a certain point), and you can get the sword looking exactly how you want it to look. This is much easier than moving vertices. But in order to get this new weapon in-game, you need to create tags for it. You'll need to have Halo Custom Edition (Halo CE) and the Halo Editing Kit (HEK). You need to compile your weapon, create tags for it, and get it in-game for Halo Custom Edition. There are tutorials floating around on how to do this. Once you have the sword in Halo CE, you can PMI the weapon's tags into your Halo PC map. There are also tutorials for doing this.

As you can see, the second method is much more time-consuming, but it will give you a better result than the first method. Take your pick.
