HALO MAP TOOLS... what am I doing wrong?

Hi guys...

I have been modding Halo maps via Sparkedit for quite some time now, but I would like to start making more complex mods such as vehicle and weapons mods.

I have been trying to use halo map tools to change max ammo, clip amounts, reload times, etc.

what I have done is:

1. open the map file
2. find the weapon tags
3. select a specific weapon
4. use the tag editor on the right to change values
5. click the blue save button

all seems well as the values save correctly, however when I try to run halo with my newly modded map, it crashes with an "exception error" alert window that pops up, then the game shuts down

what am I doing wrong??

Thanks alot

well, no one has answered my question "Pelican in bloodgulch" but i can help. Did you try to Compress the weapon injection system? if not, do so.

hi bangdude (lol :)) Thanks for the reply.

To be honest I have no idea what you're talking about.

I am very new to HMT and I have yet to sucessfully mod anything with it. I am trying to make a simple mod first just so I can learn the program.

What do you mean compress the weapon injection system?? can you explain what that is and how to do it? keep in mind i pretty much know nothing about HMT so I have no experience to go by.

Thanks :D

A couple possible reasons...

Erasing the type box getting the message
"error while trying to update and write structure"
Make sure you highlight then overwrite values.

Putting ammo values at like 50000 can cause errors keep at 4 digits...
Max out at 9999

Putting bad values in zooms.

Not knowing what they are and messing with other weapon flags.

Some others. Wayyyyyyyyy more if u got the extra plugins.
Alot there will cause the errors too.

Popular ones are the top two.

lets say I want to allow the sniper rifle to have a max ammo of 96, a srarting ammo of 24, and 12 shots per clip...

would this be the correct procedure? or am I doing it all wrong?
1. open the map file
2. find the weapon tags
3. select a specific weapon
4. use the tag editor on the right to change values
5. click the blue save button

the only tutorial I have found is the pelican importing tutorial, which is very complicated and is something I'm simply not interested in doing.

is there a tutorial for simple mods such as changing wepon charactersitics?

or can somebody give me a quick step by step insructions to change the max ammo in the sniper rifle?

or tell me what i'm doing wrong based on what I posted above?

Thanks alot guys :)

Im not trying to be mean to anyone really but its funny seeing people say to new people "dont be lazy, look yourself".....think about it for a minute.

Heres a quick tutorial on how to change the Snipers ammo:

1. open up a map of your choice in HMT, In this tut im just going to say Bloodgulch.
2. Scroll down until you get to weapons, then click on the plus sign at the very left of the weapons tag and it will drop down a list of weapons.
3. Click on the sniper rifle (should be the last weapon)
4. Now you see on the right it opens up a few options, thats the tag editor, basically, the weapon editor.
5. Now, in the tag editor, scroll down until you see an option called "Magazines" and theres a little white box and an arrow to the side of it, click the arrow and there will be the option "0" click that and in the boxes next to "Rounds Recharged", "Rounds Total Initial", etc. Numbers will pop up.
6. To change the maximum ammo, in the rounds total max box, change the number to whatever you want, in this case im going to change it to 50.
7. And your done :) Easy isnt it?

that's exactly what I did except that I clicked the blue save button... was I not supposed to do that? and if not, does the new setting just save itself automatically??

thanks alot multi-genre, I really appriciate you taking the time to help me :D

the save button in HMT is only used when you preform a meta-swap. If you simply edited the values what you type in writes directly to teh map file (that's the reason you can't edit maps while halo is running, because HMt contuously saves all input that goes into the tag editor)

Save is only needed when you swap meta's. But as far as I know, it would do no harm to the actual editing itself.

I ve been experimenting with it alot now... it seems to be very very picky about what numbers you put in.

if i change 1 thing a little bit, it runs fine. if i change a couple things or change something drastically, it crashes.... hmm is this normal??

fpr example, i changed the sniper rifle to a 12 shot clip, and 12 reload shots, and 84 shots max ammo.... it ran fine, so i got excited and made it 300 max ammo with 50 starting ammo... the game allows me to start but when i try to pick up the sniper rifle... BAM!!!! it crashes
