Im Starting Off Fresh And Need Some Help

I just started modding and I screwed up a lot of files to the point to which they were unrepairable. So, I reinstalled HaloPC.
Now I want to start off fresh. I was orginally trying to take on harder projefcts that I am not ready for. I want to take on more customization projects.
Now, does anyone have tutorials or anything on the following:
I want to customize the HUD for myself.
I want to customize some weapons (not create!).
I want to customize the Spartan player model.
Any one or more of the above things is fine for me, I want to start on one of them (preferably the customized HUD). If anyone feels that these tasks are to complicated/difficult for a beginner, please let me know because I am just starting off.
