First Strike Campaign In the works

Grettings fellow HaloMods forumgoers. I am pleased to announce the opening of a very ambitious project. Many of the mods discussed on this site are for multiplayer levels, and I haven't seen any information on campaign mods. This is probably due to the fact that current tools.... eh... don't facilitate this capacity exceptionally well.

I, however, plan to anticipate the release of the Halo Editing Kit(HEK) by planning, designing, and building everything required to make a quality Campaign, and I have chosen the missions from the books(embellished for action and fun's sake ) as the source storyline for this Campaign. I plan on remaining as true to the book(s) as possible which means that I have a massive task set before me.

I would very much want the assistance of anyone, and specifically the members of this site, who have contributed amazing work to the Halo mod community. Here is a brief list of some help I need(from my website).
  • Modeller -BIG requirement levels are the main thing in this Mod, as most of the enemies, textures, sounds and AI will be pulled from existing sources

Skinner - another BIG job; I can model fairly well, but skinning those models is not my cup 'o tea

Animator - there will be massive amounts of cutscenes, so if you would like to contribute to this section as well, we'll need you. Also, we will need a biped animator for the development of Brutes. We may have to cut them from the final product if we can't get them polished enough

2D artist - we have several new enviroments and characters to deal with, so that means TEXTURES!!! wheee!!

Voice talent - if you think you've got what it takes to record the voiceovers for the cutscenes, ambiant noises for new characters or other challenges, we need you too!

Programming experience- Another subject I breifly comprehend, but don't excel at... and this will probably(unless we can tweak banshee physics) be required for the ship2ship combat. Either way, we'll need AI coders.

Conceptual Designers- I'm not the most creative person, so I'll need all the help I can get to design original levels. I am going to start this phase as soon as possible, so this is the primary goal: get some levels designed. If you want to help out, create some concept sketchs/ideas and send 'em to me. It would be great bragging rights to your girlfriend. "This this high quality Halo mod? I helped design this level" ;)
If you are interested, contact me via PM, email, MSN messenger, AIM, post on my message boards at my webpage, posting in this topic, or by any other means you see fit.

My webpage also contains further project details, such as mission data and will be updated frequently with progress reports and other opportunities. Again, my webpage is at http://firststrike.web1000.com

Thank you for your attention and I hope that many of you join my quest to create a high-quality Campaign mod.

If there is one thing I can do, and do well, it's conceptional designer. I can do that! :D

And are you basing it off the book First Strike, or.....something else?

Well, my original plan was to entirly base it off of First Strike, but I'm considering including several levels from The Fall of Reach as well.

I would love to have you onboard as a level designer Demonic Spartan!

Check out my webpage and the project details page for a list of the levels im considering and spew some ideas.

I've got to read a book for english class today(stupid holiday assignments... so I'll be checking in, but won't be here most of today. Just drop me some mail, or post on my message board. I'll get it all set up a little later.

Grrr.... my message board software(came with the (free)host) is apparently buggy... I'll find another service somewhere. Or something.

I might even go with a differnt host. The thing I like about web1000 is that its unlimited bandwidth and no banner ads. Connection to it blows though. :(

Right now, I'm looking at proboards.com

-RunningRiot

EDIT: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx is my new forum system. My webpage has been updated to reflect this, and the old board was maliciously deleted :D

EDIT: I took the message boards down, cause the proboards host was S-L-O-W. Unusably so. Check further down for more info.

Ok, my forums are up and running at proboards, and all of you willing to join my project, you will need the developer password to gain entry to the devleopers section of the forum.

Contact me in the usual manner to join/get the password.

-RunningRiot

EDIT: Damn my luck. ProBoards is probably the slowest place on the internet. I'm giving up the message boards idea(for now) and just setting up an IRC channel

#fsdev on irc.freenode.net

It is a lot of work, but if I have help... it'll likely get done faster.

I'm really devoted to this project, so even if I have to do it myself, you will eventually see a finished project.

This is never going to happen... No offence but do any of us know how to make an sp level? Sure. We can make models and textures but can we put it all together?

We're going to produce the models and textures and et c during the time that Gearbox is still working on the HEK. When they release it, we can "put it all together"
