realism mod idea

well, after seeing how halo pc has relatively weak and not-quite powerful guns, i've decided to try and make a realism mod.

||--changes--||

-phyics-

physics, like a powerful gun not pushing it's victim much, or not affecting things realistically physics-wise, will be changed (like the shotgun pushing a close-range victim back a few feet)

explosions will also have a beefed up tossing power.

also, i'm apalled at the shotgun not being able to hit shit from 25 yards, so that's changing

-damage-

i'll change the damage each gun gives so that it affects the player semi-realistically (like getting shot with a pistol in real life vs. getting shot with a pistol in halo) but i will take note to guns becoming unfair or weak from these types of changes.

-other miscellaneous things-

i'm also going to change reaload and firing times when i see it fit, and possibly even magazine changes. i would make it so that when you shoot just about any type of gun, it will shake the screen, like in real life

-extra stuff-

i'm not 100 % sure of this part yet, but i may incorporate a suicide-bomb mod with this, where you can pick up a handheld or vehicular suicide bomb

I have been running an almost identical set up for BG for quite some time.

I can highly recommend it!

In the end I put together a weapons test BG with lots of cyborgs standing around for ranging and damage tests, but I still occasionally needed a second person to drive stuff, so I could set up correct projectile force levels. There is a huge difference in results between impact on a static model and one that is subject to additional physics, and hit while moving at speed.

As a basic example; I narrowed the spread of the shotgun to concentrate its force and damage. It only rocks a stationary hog, but the exact same shot will cause the hog to roll if its hit side on while moving close by at speed.

It takes a bit of getting used to, but it makes sense that an assault rifle firing 15 rounds a second, should do more damage than a handgun firing 3 at the same range.

I mean, who goes into battle against fully automatic assault rifles carrying a handgun??

(Rhetorical question - pistol experts need not reply!)

I say go for it!

Uh... Shotguns are Shotguns. I don't think they were meant to hit anything more than 3 yards away, let alone 25.

no offense hunter XI, but shotguns are more accurate than you think.

for example, shooting a moving bird 25-50 yards away is rather difficult with something like a rifle, because the bird is moving (whereas rifles are beter for deer, who generally aren't moving much)

so, we take a normal gun, put about 20 enlarged bb's into it instead of one bullet, and the shot spreads out, to make it able to hit moving targets easier.

so far, i changed the assault rifle bullet and shotgun pellet force to .13 and made both more accurate. i made the assault riflehave a magazine of 30 rounds (by making it shoot 2 bullets instead of one). i think this would take care of damage issues as long as the game is no-shields. the only clip i've changed so far is the pistol's to make it have seven shots in a magazine, but also the same amount of actual magazines when compared to the clip not being changed at all (what i'm saying is that you still have 10 magazines max, but you change tem more often)

|--update--|

well, i just finished my first beta-test game and not many people noticed the mod at all! well, i didn't change much, only the details, and i don't want a radical difference in the game's feel, so i guess this was expected.

i've also learned that the shotgun is insanely powerful, and the assault rifle needs to be stronger, but is in the general area i want it to be range-wise

the pistol is still insanely accurate, and doesn't really have a good sidearm feel to it (it's still more like a very slow-shooting small-clipped assault rifle than a pistol :? )

i'm also debating more things like shotgun magazine size, and vehicle physics, but i don't think i'll have to do much there.

any ideas or feedback, don't be shy to post!

Models! Skins! Models! Skins! make the models and skins more modern/realistic.

I've been working on the same thing recently...
