Skinning. How do you Skin?

Post by Liness »

Ok, so i want to know how to skin.. I looked for a tut on YouTube but I can't open the bitmaps... Says they are the wrong kind of file in Photoshop... is there a reason for this..? I have Photoshop CS3 Extended HMT v3.5 (and HHT v5). I did everything in the tut but it wont open. Do I need something else for this? if I do could someone give me a link?

Thanks.

Taken from SL!PS thread.

Programs:
HMT - Extracting/Injecting Textures
DXTBmp - Converts Textures from/to dds format

1-Open HMT then a map with the texture you want to change in it.
2-Click on the '+' for '[bitm] Bitmap'
3-Find your texture and click on it. (That may take a while Its ordered Alphabetically and everything catagoried ie weapons\assult rifle\fp\bitmaps\assult rifle_fp)
4-Click 'Save Texture' and put it where you can find it. !Take note of the FileType (Above image)! (ei DXT1)
5-Open DXTBmp and click 'File/Open' and choose the texture.
6-Double click the image. (That will open it in Paint by default to change this click 'Prefs/Select Editor')
7-Edit you texture and save it from the Editor as bmp or png. (Jpeg quality is terrible)
8-Open the new image in DXTBmp.
9-Click 'File/Save As' select 'DDS Texture' save it as the same File format from oridginal image.
10-Reopen the map in HMT go to the Texture and click 'Inject Texture'
11-Hit 'Save'.

Frankly, it's a lot easier to go download a DDS plugin for Photoshop: http://forums.halomods.com/viewtopic.php?t=23932

Then you can just double click the DDS files themselves, and save them as DDS files straight from Photoshop. Be sure to know what file format the texture you want to inject is, and make sure that if the texture has MIP maps, you save it with them as well.

ok, i downloaded the dds plugin and downloaded it to C:\Program Files\Adobe CS3. But it still is giving me the error when I open the bitmap file. So i went on YouTube looked at a tut and followed it. In the tut i went in HMT bitmaps went down to weapons\pistol\fp\bitmaps\pistol. I clicked save meta, saved it to a spot where I can find it. Then i tried to open it after downloading that and it still gives me the error. I would really like to learn how to skin, so it would be a great help if you could help me. :D

Thanks.
