Have you tried banning him from your server?

This sounds almost like you're trying to replicate what he's doing.
Just run an IPnetSentry, get his IP, and if it persists, bring him to court.
It's illegal to access another person's computer to do malicious things without permission.

It sounds like a target packet flood with malicious code in it.
That could screw over any server, with the right data.

Same thing here. After, 2 hours of gameplay a random "Buffer Overun" message appears. Some network experts say that you should lower you routers MTU size and enable NAT filtering (Nat filtering doesn't allow others to trace back to your local server(s). Even with this, anybody can still try to send corrupt or malicious data to a server. Most commonly it happens in Halo Trial games. The full version has updates to prevent this.

Buffer Overun doesn't really mean your PC is getting hacked, it's actually like a defensive response. It's an update from microsoft that prevents a certain buffer load in halo, etc. from reaching or go over a certain limit. It could possibly be an issue with your PC' graphics card or an actuall server hack. In other words, when this message appears, the update really cancels out the data transmission to prevent any further system instability.

The person who said they were going to do this to your server is probably doing a DoS attack and if he probably is, then there's no way to track him. Because, in order to do a DoS attack you must spoof an IP address, etc (no further detalis, so no one gets any ideas). And, the only way to prevent this is either updating your game or PC, or by lowering the TCP and UDP timeout sessions in your router.

its a program called halo BOOM. look it up. It uses C++ to do something to the hosts server and cause it to crash. Even if you banned him from the server after he joined, the server would still crash. I only have one suggestion. Either play with a password protected server or just wait til he stops doing it. Eventually all the noobs who find out about halo boom will stop crashing servers and being retarded

Buffer overrun means he just yanked your buffer(and possibly other player's buffers) out of your hand. probably put stuff in it. a buffer is like a line of messages in queue. when he changes it, the messages are changed. this couldve been easily avoided if microsoft werent so lazy.

what you can do: in the settings menu, set your connection type to T1/LAN. Halo may or may not use buffers then, and if it did it wouldnt use it much, reducing the risk.

a firewall helps too.

The guy has modded HIS game to increase chat buffer size most likely, probably beefed it up, then made it so he could send messages after he left.. It crashes your game because ur gamje cant handle that many characters.

You may be able to ban him with your computer firewall by blocking his IP address..... Would it block it despite the fact that it is fake?
