how do you play downloaded maps

Ok i am very new at this (well with halo) and when i download a map and put it in my map folder it doesnt come up on the screan how do i play it. and how do i apply a file to another file like it i said should with sound and bitmap or something like that.

btw it would be a nice idea if u had a noob section cus i cant find anything on ur bord. Its like everything looks the same and confussing.
