Noob in need of help

Ok, i understand how to mod cache files and apply ppf's and all of that. What i need to know is if Compress a modded cache file and rename it and put it into the maps folder on my backed up halo, would i be able to play it off of a cd instead of ftp'ing the modded cache file back to my xbox? Any help would be greatly appreciated
