Possible pelican Gun Turret?

A few hours ago I was playing the level Halo on legendary, and when you kill all the covenant at the first structure and the pelican drops off the warthog, it has a gunner who looks like he?s alert while still attached(he?s moving his turret around) and so I was wondering can you drive a pelican with a vehicle attached to it?
if so can you have a marine in it? anybody ever tried this? I would but I haven?t modded my xbox yet and my pc?s graphics card is to slow to run halo pc. so I just thought I?d ask and satisfy my curiosity.
