Adding new maps to Halo Xbox?

Hey.. I just did my first map on Halo.. I tried out that "Bridge Gulch".. works pretty good..

But it honestly, is kind of stupid and pointless if it just REPLACES the original blood gulch. So I was wondering if it was possible to create a new map.. One such as bridge gulch.. as a selectable option on the multiplayer one.. but still include the original Blood Gulch on there

So is it possible to have new maps on halo xbox without replacing the original ones?

I heard in the FAQ's here for files.halomods.com, that they shouldnt post the .map files.. only the ppf file....

Well what if they did post the .map file.. then would that be a new selectable map instead of overwriting it... is there anyway to make a PPF file into a map file?

Thanks!

yeah they do...

If you add something, for example.. the bridge gulch mod for blood gulch.

After a while the cache will start over or whatever, and bridge gulch will no longer be there, and it will just be blood gulch again

yeah if you play another level and then try to go back to blood gluch. It saves in the cache file which gets refreshed after you change the level

If the patches your using are for the cached maps (and they usually are), then no, you can't make it permanent.

However,
If you've got Halo on your hard drive and
If you patched your cached .map file and
then saved it as a compressed file,

you can place that in the compressed maps folder of your copy of Halo.

That will then become the map Halo loads whenever you play the game.

I have an idea for ya!

This is how i fixed my situation which is basically the same as yours. You want to have halo maps that are modded and still be able to have halo maps that are not modded correct?

Solution: Install 2 copies of halo.
Copy 1: Halo
Copy 2: Halo (Mods)

It's probably the easiest way to do this. Now the only problem your going to have with this is..... When you play regular Halo it caches it self in either X, Y, or Z folder ok. Now say you go to play "Halo (Mods)" it will play the already cached file.

Solution: When ever you switch between "Halo" and "Halo (Mods)" on your Xbox just use "boXplorer" to erase the cache files in what ever folder its in. Then restart and your all set to go. From here you can choose which Halo you want to play. Enjoy dude...

was thinking.. if u did just put halo on the harddrive, couldnt u just put other maps like the ones from halo pc on it and have it run them? like under the maps folder or somthin just rename the new map and replace an old one. sorry if i sound stupid but ive never tried anything like that so dunno what would happen

NO NO NO, Your missing the biggest step of all. It is true what your saying, once a Halo Xbox Map is compressed from a cache file it must then be in multiples of 1024bytes other wise it will not work at all.

Example: I compressed bloodgulch!
Before compression: 48,128 KB
After compression: 22,814 KB
*This is where you must use your head!
*Must be in multiples of 1024 "bytes" in order for this to work!
*After hex editing the compressed map the files size now looks like this.
After adding Zeros in hex editing: 23,552 KB
*Now it will work as a normal bloodgulch.map!!!

Well good luck dude, im not being sarcastic at all! I hope something comes out for Xbox in the near future because it looks like HPC gets all the damn attention. I have a few mods that i have made. There definitly very good but i have yet to release them. Once all my ideas are incorporated into my maps then they will be released!
