Injecting anything from SP to MP

Hey this is just a general question for injecting stuff on xbox. Whenever I inject new meta i got from a single player map like two betrayls, into a mp map like hang em high the game varient selection screen freezes after I load the new compressed map into the maps folder on my xbox. The new file size is substantially bigger (7 megs) for the compressed hang em high map.
I read a tutorial at halomaps.com that uses x inject and it shows people injecting meta over other meta in the game (e.g. a log collision model over a large flamethrower effect). Doing this makes the file size stay the same. I guess my question is that.. Must you inject meta over other meta so the file size stays the same, or is there a way where you can just add new meta without replacing any?
