Well first of all I'd like to start off and thank this great site which seems to be the best out of all the sites i've been to of halo modding. Also I would like to again state that i am pretty much a total noob.
I have played almost all the recent maps that I have found on this site and many others from other sites. I need some help making my own though. I think it would be awesome but just don't really know where to start. I have (i think at least) all the programs that I need. I just wanted to do things like edit the actual map (which I think is simple with sparkedit but haven't even tried to frustrat myself yet), edit the weapons (maybe import some from other grate maps I have seen around), and also the vehicels. I have found many tutorials but none of the ones i've found actually tell me where to start.
Thanks in advance,
-CHRIS
PS: I really liked some map named boom that I dled and apparently it was real easy to create, but it is just super fun. Cheers for the creator!
Another noob question
Ok, I'll list some programs for Halo editing. Here are the ones I like to use:
-Sparkedit: A real useful program. It allows you to move objects such as vehicles, weapons, scenery, spawn points(player spawns, flag spawns, KOTH circles, Oddball spawns etc) as well as being able to tell you what shaders and bitmaps are on various parts of the level. Also can view the models of vehicles, weapons, scenery and bipeds. Can compress maps. Also can duplicate weapons, vehicles and scenery.
-HMT3.5: Good for injecting bitmaps and sound(has older model injection too for custom models;may be slightly difficult to use for model injection). Also can swap tags.
-HHT4: Quite a useful program. Can recursively extract and inject meta and raw data. Has dependency swapper and tag creator. Fixes dependencies automatically(if they exist in your workmap already).
-Xinject: I find this program really useful. I seem to have bad luck(I seem to be the only one though) with HHT so I use this sometimes. It can inject meta and raw data. It can also extract and inject BSPs from other levels. Quite helpful. Features dependency AND Loneid swapper. Seems to cause compatability problems with HHT3 and 4.
There are loads of other programs too. Sparkedit and HMT3.5 are the basic programs and the others are a little bit more advanced.
Hope this can be of some help. I may have just succeeded in confusing you more. Hopefull not
. If you need more help just PM me.

yea spammy!
i have not much luck with xinject too!
xinject is the raw data program, like injecting sounds, bitmaps, models, and i would recommend to use xinject for bsp injections
but just play around with all of the apps, i reccommend you get HMK v2
its a pack of all the apps you'll need, (expect for HXE, but most people dont use it for some reason)
to you need .net framework avilable at the micro$oft website somewhere

Thanks for the details you guys but I'm still having some difficulties. What I have tried is editing the map in Sparkedit and then using HHT v4 to edit some of the weapons and things like that. I save it as compressed and load it to the cache but then its just the normal map. Why is this? I also noticed that my file is a noticable difference in size than the 47mb cache files. Is this what is causing the prob?

Because you are saving it as compressed. Compressed maps are for making the map permanant on the HD. You place them in a different directory than the cache files. The cache files are only temporary. After doing any editing, just save the map by clicking save changes in HHT.
And to mrhyperpenguin, I was actually saying I have bad luck with HHT sometimes and so I use Xinject instead.
