I think i want to start creating some maps for xbox halo. I looked in the tuts section, but im pretty sure all those are for ce. Is the method of creating a map the same way for ce and xbox? If not whats the dif and do u have any tut links?

There is a way to create a CE map and port it to XBox. I have no idea, but ViperNeo created an app that converts ce to xbox maps and I think HHT5 is going to have that feature in it.

I can't wait either. HHT4 was a huge step for the modding community, and xbox map rebuilding will take us to a whole new level! If only it had been done sooner, Halo 2 is on its way.
On a side note, it will be pretty interesting to see how much we'll be able to mod Halo 2, and how quickly that progress will be made by the hackerz. I can't imagine that the map system will be too much different than what they already had set up with the original Halo, but I guess we'll find out soon enough.

*Realises that a lot of the (new) members don't know who Mono is*
*Feels his modding age*

spammy you joined around the time i joined!
and xbox modding (xbox modding came before hpc modding) is a little more than one year old, can you belive it?
and thing i heard that mono and iron forge were working on something together but that was a while ago
and i dont think that there would be much need for a H2MT
HHT is a lot better in many ways (but not all) and all the elite hackers will proboly will make explosive progress

We will just have to see what happens when H2 comes into the modding community

Personally, I'm expecting the H2 maps to be different from Halo's maps. The game will almost certainly have a completely new engine meaning the maps could be different. Hopefully they won't be different(therefore making our job much much easier; we wouldn't have to map out the layout of the maps again.) But, of course good things don't come easily so I don't want to get my hopes up.

Ya a lot of the internal engine stuff will be much different, but hopefully they will still be compressing the maps much like the original Halo, and from what I've heard of them making sure everything fits on a single DVD they won't have much of a choice. So I'd definitely expect them to be uncompressing the maps the temp drives (x,y,z). Which means that the maps will most definitely be hackable, and I'm sure they'll still be using a heirarchy within the hex data similar to the original Halo.
So, it's likely that the only way we'll really run into trouble is if Bungie puts some kind of data protection into place for the uncompressed maps, which is possible. However, not probable. They have confirmed that there will be downloadable content. Which means it will be relatively simple for us to install new maps and whatever else (maybe new weapons, vehicles--we can only hope) using Xbox Live. Which means it will have to be that much easier for us to install new maps by hacking it.
I think that although Bungie is owned by Microsoft, they will (unofficially) want us to have fun hacking the maps. I remember a while back when people like Ultramagnus were figuring all the map data out, and someone from Bungie told someone (can't remember who) to look for the tags for everything. It might have been in a public forum.
Anyway, my 2 cents, whatever it's worth, is that we will be able to mod H2, and it will be a much quicker process than it was for the original Halo.

I reckon H2 will still use tags.
