where are the tutorials on what these programs are and what they do. i've searched for a week now and i can't even find info on what sparkedit is for. yes, i've googled it too. tutorials on this site are very vague. other sites just point here. DO NOT point me to the sticky for the noob tutorial b/c i've looked at that plenty of times. i don't even care about editing maps n all that. i just want to use the cool mods that everyone is making (that i can't get working)

yes, i already have a modded xbox. i would like to make a tutorial for using hmk but i can't find any good ones for each individual program on only using the maps. mine would be much more detailed and give examples using the actual programs. is it just me or what? i'm tired of playing the guessing game w/all of this. someone please help a noobie out. thanks

well here's the thing...i downloaded hmk v2 b/c it was convenient, however, i don't know what exactly each one does and it seems when i got to their links (the one's provided in the noob sticky), it just says how to use them or to download that certain app, not what their purpose is. correct me if i'm wrong but if i dont' care to do any actual editing...i won't need all programs. so if that's the case, i'm trying to figure out exactly which ones to use. tutorials are either too vague or too technical for my understanding. i don't want to learn hex n all that (nothing aganist it), i just want to use the mods. if sparkedit is all i need, then sure, a tut on that would be great. sending me a link to the post will do no good though b/c it just says to download it and the new features.
i mentioned making a tut b/c i know i can't be the only person out here that only wants to USE everyone's cool mods and not do any actual editing, know wut i mean?

It sounds like all you want to do is patch files with the mods (PPF's) you download form here.
In that case, all you need is PPF-O-Matic, a prog in HMK.
In PPF-O-matic, in the "ISO file" bar you browse for the map file (in the browser window you must select "all files" instead of "CD Images"), and in the "patch" bar you select the patch. Then hit apply. It patched the map, now you can fTP it back to the Xbox.
Where the mapfiles are: Assuming that you already have a modded xbox, you get the mapfiles onto your comp via FTP
1. Delete all the contents of X, Y, and Z.
2. Play Halo. Play the level that you want to patch.
3. Connect via FTP, and browse X, Y, and Z, until you find a bunch of files labeled cache000.map through cache005.map. If you wanted to patch a single player map, cache000.map is your target. If it is a MP map, it will be cache003.map.
4. Copy the map to your computer. You can now patch it.
to put the modded map back on there:
1. On your comp, right click the map and copy it.
2. Paste it back where you found it, overriding the cache000 or cache003 that's already there.
3. Play the map, and have fun!
To make the map permanently modded:
First, you must have Halo on the hard drive of your Xbox.
Get the cache file like normal, and patch it. Now, in HMK, open SparkEdit.
Go to File: open cache file. Select the modded map.
You will see the map! Wow!
Now, click File: save map as compressed. Create a name for the map, and save it.
FTP to the xbox, and browse the folder that contains Halo. Click on maps, and all the maps are in there. Find the one that you modded (ex. bloodgulch: bloodgulch.map). Now, rename that map, to say oldbloodgulch.map.
find the modded, compressed map, and copy it to the /maps folder on the xbox. Rename it to the name of the map it is, such as bloodgulch.map, or whatever. For the SP maps, they are names by increacing numbers, then letters. (PoA is a10.map, all the way to the Maw, d40.map.
Delete all the contents of x, y, and z, and play your more permanent modded map (not completely parmanent, you can rename the files back to normal)

HMK v2 was totally redone because HMK v1 was done in VB6 verses HMK v2 being done in VB.NET. Alot more thought went into that program because I tried to make it possible to have all the tools right in one spot so it doesnt take 3 years to mod. I do not have a tutorial on any of the HMK's, however I do suggest that you read up on how to use all the individual tools like Spark Edit, HHT, HMT, etc... Im rarley on Halo Mods anymore so if you guys need me im at my site
