many peeps know that my box died, and sadly, i have not yet had it repaired. i did make a kick ass controller port on my PC with the old xbox controller ports and have been having a great time playing Quake 2 with my xbox contoller.
I am now switching to the good old linux from windows, and need the xbox HDD to store old files on and possibly use IT as a linux drive and leave my C drive alone, wich would be easyer than a total OS swap. I think i unlocked it one day in evox before my xbox's inevitable doom, so any help to format it would be greatly appreciated. or if i didnt, unlocking W/O evox help would be great also.
The main thing is that i dont know the drive letter of the xbox drive when i plug it in and dont want to format my REAL hard drive by accident. Would booting up with a MS-DOS boot floppy disk, removing my REAL HDD and switching it with my XBOX hdd, and then typing FORMAT C work? it would be like tricking the machine. any help would be appreciated.
Thanks for HELPING, (AND IF YOU DONT, SHAME ON YOU...)
not really halo, but still worth a read.

hes not trying to make an xbox harddrive, hes trying to use his xbox harddrive in the computer
anyway, (as long as its unlocked) at an ms-dos prompt with only the xbox harddrive in the computer, type fdisk
then you should be able to follow the prompts to delete the old partition and create a new one. then you will have to restart and then format c:
then you should be able to plug both harddrives in the computer and boot it on the original harddrive to windows. if windows sets a drive letter for it, then its a success. then you can go ahead with a linux install on that drive
this is all assuming that the disk is in fact unlocked. if not, then you would need a way to find the unlock code. PM me with questions

How about just removing your windows drive from your computer and putting in the xbox drive, and boot from the install cd of your distro of choice (gentoo is the best
If your harddrive is locked then you will find out about it as soon as you try and partition/install it
(and use whatever tool you need)
otherwise it will format and install to your xbox drive
then afterward you could put both drives in and put grub on the master drive's boot sector
