seriously need help!!!!!! (about hex editing/permanent mods)

Post by martijn »

Hi,

Since I saw some sweet looking maps on this site, if downloaded them and and patched the cache file, so far no problem.
But I was getting tired off ftp-ing all the time, I wanted the changes to be permanent
So now I have two copys of Halo on my harddrive, one original and one wit modded maps. It works great for some mods, who overwrite the original map, like blooggulch Night N trees N halo 2 stuff.
But since there aren't any mods for maps like wizard or something, I'd like to save some of the maps like Chapel saved as wizard, or something
I patched the file, compressed it with sparkedit and saved as wizard, then I opened a hexediting program, and changes the name bloodgulch in wizard. But it won't work.
I saw something on the xbox-scene forum about the amount of letters. Bloodgulch has more letters than wizard, so you need to put 0 somewhere.
Does any1 know how?
I'd like to have these maps permanent without overwriting my other bg mod

thanx in adv

hmm i dont believe you need to change the names in hex. I think as long as the map is named prperly (wizard.map) if ou select wizard, it will laod it up properly.

Not positive on that, but try it out

No you have to change the internal name too or else it would uncompress wizard.map to cache003.map. Then it would check the internal name...bloddgulch. Try to uncompress wizard.map again. Over and over again. I'm not sure if it would give you a dirty disk error or if you would have an eternal loop or what(never tried it) but you do need to change the name in hex. If the map was wizard and you change it to bloodgulch...it should be fine. If it was already bloodgulch, after you typed in wizard, it would say wizardulch. Just type 0's in the hex area not the text area until "ulch" is blank.
