Hey, started my first map for halo over at
Halo Junkies .. It's been a breeze to model except I'm now trying to find the reason over why I get degenerate triangles errors in sapien. I've tried re-apply the uvs an re modeling the polygones which show up in the debug.wrl ..
anyways here's a few images.. gimme comments and criticism
Cheers

Very nice work! I don't know how to help you ;(
Just wondering -- how many polygons do those bases take up? They seem very smooth... you might have too many, maybe that could be the problem...
wow

hey this map is incredible!!!! SIK 10\10
Y youre getting lot of degenerate triangles: i made a map incredibly detailed as yours but i had to start over: too much errors. cauz u consentrated on the map's originality, so u get a million errors. That'S life. but try to correct your errors, i just almost done my new map and it takes about a day complete to correct your errors.
PS: import the .WRL file from your halo ce folder, thats the file were tool shows u the erors on your map. when u have an open edge or a degenerate triangle just delete the edge or the triangle, then create new triangles, thats the best way to do.
GOOD LUCK

I think one way to get rid of some errors is to raise the faces on the second row in. It looks like you raised the faces that were connected to the sides of the box and ended up twisting them.

Can anybody tell me how to UVW map?

thanks for all the comments guys
@[XBOX]BigAFair: I could tell you how to uv map in lightwave but not max lol
@Nsomnia1337: Least it has an effect then
@blink 182: Yeah I did raise the first row and not the second.. but the faces arent twisted, well.. they aren't the ones giving me problems..
@AkmAssassin: I know which faces are giving me the errors.. it's only 4
I've tried remodeling them.. re-uvmaping them.. etc.. kinda stumped..
@jimmsta: Its just the light.. the out side of the bases are 12 sided..
I'll get a pic up of the 4 faces that give me errors.. all of them seem to have one thing in common as they all connect the middle bases to the landscape..
edit:. Ok here's a image of my prob... the face with the red dot is giving me hell.. well it's 1 of the 4. Another of the 4 is situated the other side of the building.. and the other 2 are in the same position on the opposite side of the map.. also by my building..
I've checked for loose vertice.. welded and unwelded the bases to the level and back.. any suggestions?[/img]

Awesome! That will have to be non-vehicles though. It looks small-ish.
And it looks kinda like a Covenant installation. Hmm....Does it have a story to go with it?

i've also had alot of problems with that, it happens in sapien, so i went back in max and reskinned everything, and did sum thins with the shaders and bitmaps and it worked, but that was just a small thing this is way bigger, but maybe it is of any help to you
good luck with it

thanks all...
It took me 2 days to do the modeling and another 2 to do the texturing...
Hopefully fix my problem asap..
I've tried re-skinning.. and I wouldnt have thought it was a shader or a bitmap as the texture I use is shared for the whole terrain texture.. and it's only 3 damn triangles... argg
It will be none vehicle.. well definetly non banshee or scorpion
the map looks smaller in the images than it is.. the bases are kinda huge so I think maybe 4 warthogs..

early early in-game shots...
as you can see it still needs loads of work.. but at least its int game..
currently only the terrain texture is sorted.. I still need to re map the surrounding cliffs and create shaders for the other building textures somehow or other
