Could use some Tips and Help

Although Im very experienced to graphics design, I am brand new to the 3d mapping world. I would really like to get good with 3DSMax, and have already taken a few of the tutorials supplied with the program itself (Basic Animation, Cameras, Moving through viewports, building a chesset, etc.). While I work my way through the rest of the tutorials, I was also planning on putting what I know so far to use by building a map at the same time to keep the things I learn in my head. I have already completed the supplied Guide fromt he Halo CE HEK for building the tutorial level, but now Im moving on to a bit harder modeling and level design and for some reason cannot get some things to work. Im almost sure Im making a mistake somewhere, so help would be great.

My problem is applying multiple materials to one model. Here are some pictures of what my model looks like at the moment:

Thats not the completed Model, and I dont plan to add material til its completley finished, but I wanted to make sure everything was working seeing that many other people have faced problems when they have nearly finished something, and have had to start back at the beggining.

When I added a material, I used a multi/subobject material, because I wanted to map the inside and outside of the base with two seperate materials. I selected all of the faces on the front of the outside part of the base (http://greycobra.com/mapping/militaryst ... ting/3.jpg), assigned the material group to them, and then did the UV Map Option, but nothin happens. If you know what Im doing wrong, please let me know, or give me some tips on materials. If not, dont worry about it, as I will try to find out for myself through some material lessons/tutorials.

Also, in the future, if any mapper needs a 2d artist, texture designer, or just someone to work on maps with, email me at [email protected], or [email protected]. We can start a project or something. If you need hosting for the maps, I can help with that too.

Thanks in advance!

I still cant get Multi/subobject materials to work, so if anyone can make a simple way to do this, that would be swell. Right now, I am using single textures on each model, which wont work so well with the full level. The bases look allright I guess, but It would be better if I could get this to work. Here is a look of bases with single textures:

By the way, If you could email me, the old addressess still work, but I would prefer if you email [email protected]. Thanks.

- by the way, sorry for double post -
