Glass Texturing

can anybody help me? i'm having some problems with my glass texturing. i've found glass textures under a10, a30, b30 etc but when i put it in, it looks fine in MAX but in Sapien, looks like crap and nothing like how it looks on Prisoner. i compressed them with explicit alpha (suggested by kirks4 tutorials) and used a shader_transparent_glass. is there something i'm missing?
as it is in Prisoner...

this is how mine looks with the "cryo glass.tif" from the "a10" directory. the plane used to create the glass has been made a MESH...

the submaterial is named "cryo glass-#%" so it breaks, is transparent, and is doublesided...

as you can see, this is driving me up the wall... i don't know why it's doing what it's doing. as far as i can tell, it's only showing the alpha layer
