Many people suggest using 512 faces in the tessealtion process, what if you use around 2500? will this cause any unwanted effects in the final map?

it means you cant use as many polys for the rest of the level.
a level should have a MAX of 10,000 polys.
that 2500 just takes away from the 10,000

Yes but, what other places would i need those polys in? i dont need them on the roof or sides becasue thats all sky. so i could set the entire ground to 10,000 polys?

If you used 10,000 polys on the ground, you would have none left over for bases and the such....Come to think of it...Even if you don't want to have a base or any added geometry, 10,000 polys is rediculously high for ground. Nope...I'd never do it.
