First Ever Model

Well this is my first ever attempt at a model, and i think its decent, but nothing compared to other ones. If anyone has some URLs for 3ds max 6 tutorials, id appreciate it.

Looks like a Nerf gun/hair dryer......Nice job for a first try

lol i can see it now...
Master Chief comes out from the ship and is faced by a horde of elites. he reches to his belt and pulls out his...NERF GUN!!! He immediately starts pumping and the WHAM the first feathery light dart is away. an elite falls and the others run away in fear. Master Chief, having gotten very sweaty during this ordeal takes off his helmet and uses the nerf guns alternate fire to dry his hair. the end

And then he goes and picks the bullets up again

dude! that wud b awsome
Design a new projectile that looks like a nerf dart. make it instantly kill elites. Use it in SP. Then, make a secondary fire that does something useful and it comes out of the hairdryer hole.
That wud b the coolest ever!!

not bad, just watch out in the future that any gun going into the game needs to have the cylinders cut down on sides to cut down on the poly count of it.

well since i am a noob at modeling, how do i go about checking the polycount in MAX 6? i know the standards amount for Unreal, but what is it for halo?

go to file summary info, its there. For weapons in the first person in halo I want to say its around 1700 but it drops drastically for the third person models, even though some are 1700 I would still try and get as low as you can for best game play.

is it the mesh totals, vertices or faces or what number in there?

people go by faces and/or verts but usually face count

Verts=1713
Faces=3239

see for that model thats way too high, just watch out for it in the future. Like the ar in halo is that much i think, its been awhile so if im wrong then correct me but still thats too high for a model like that.

can you set the ver n faces down to fit perfectly into halo?
