What you do is go to pc model in hmt 3.5(i like to use v3 for this), go to what you want to change select the model and click export. When it has a yes or no question, click yes and save it. Now go to Milkshape and go to file import and click the one that says wavefront and load the model. Now change what you want (remember, you cannot add or delete vertices unless you want Mr.Exception) and when your done go to export and export as wavefront. Then go to your hmt and go to the pc model again and go to the model that you just moddified and highlight it and hit import. Now select your new model and SAVE!

I think there was some sort of problem with gmax(correct me if I am wrong). I think that gmax either can't export or can't import .obj files and I don't think there is a plugin for that (I dont really know, I dont use gmax).
edit: I personally don't like gmax. It feels weird when you have been modeling with milkshape for a while. If you are just starting out modeling than use milkshape!!
