[wip] Guitar

Post by Viggy »

I was taking a break from working on that Elite model and I was playing my guitar (it's not technically mine, I'm borrowing this one because mine is busted). Then I opened up Gmax and started modeling. Well, this is what I've got so far:

This is the base of the guitar (no material applied). The basic shape is laid out and I pretty much stopped there for now. This is just a side project.

Thoughts so far?

EDIT: And it is very good for Gmax How do you add vertexs or did you just use the ones you start with?

Theres some weird smoothing at the back part.
Besides that, looks pretty sweet.
My real name is a Mammoth, if someone who cares sees this, please change my name to a Mammoth

Yeah I wasn't sure how to start this one so I just laid out vertices and plaid connect the dots, then improvised to get what I have now. :)

I'll be working on this one more today when I get home from school.

Update.

The positioning of everything isn't exactly the way I want it, but roughly it's slowly coming together.

Looking good, although very basic.

Yeah, but it looks cool. And it's even cooler for me because I'm holding the guitar I'm modeling right in my hands.

I think when I finish, I'll take a picture of the real thing and put the picture and model together to see how it looks :) .

no, they're convex and hollow (acoustic guitars anyways).

kinda simple, but you need a 3 degree draft angle on that thing. the edges shouldn't be vertical.

Dude. No. Do you even know who Katarn and Snaf are? They are some of the few 1337est modelers that have ever set foot in CE. =D

I don't think I understand. I'm modeling this off my buddy's guitar and the edges look vertical to me.

Can you provide a picture to better explain what you're talking about? You may be right and I may be just thinking about something totally different.

the edges are supposed to be visually vertical, but they're most likey (due to manufacturing procedures) angled at 3 degrees, possibly less. so instead of it being like this:

[ ] on the sides (totally vertical, top and bottom) it should be more like this

/ \ top (the underscore would be the middle between the top and bottom half of the guitar)
\ / bottom

the sides angle towards the top and bottom. this is done so that they can pull the part out of the mold easily.

Oh I see what you mean now. But, uh, I dunno where you're buying your guitars but last I checked, you don't mold wood. :)

Anway, I'm gonna skip out on working on it for today because I just don't care too much today. I'll update tomorrow.
