I would like to know exactly what i need to start making basic maps

Halo Editing Kit
3ds max or gmax (3ds max is free for 30 days, after that it cost a few thousand, but gmax is free forever)
Paintshop or Photoshop (I reccomend paintshop over photoshop for mapping)
Thats it, Oh and you might want to go to the local petshop to buy a hamster too.

lol ty but why would i need a hamster and i have one more question how do i get those building blocks ppl use to make bases and stuff on bg

OMG, thats why my maps keep screwing up. I just looked, and they gave me a parrot, when I specifically asked for a hamster. Maybe if I did the penguin-truffle dance...
